Days Out From The Lodge - North to Kylesku and Scourie

Buckle up, we're heading north on the NC500 to Kylesku and Scourie

Calling all NC500 adventurers, families, and explorers! Today, we're showcasing why Inchnadamph Explorers Lodge is the perfect base camp for your North West Highlands getaway.

A Scenic Spin and a Royal Connection (20 Minutes to Kylesku)

First things first, the journey itself is a treat for the eyes. The dramatic landscapes of Assynt will keep you glued to the window. Keen to stretch your legs? We're only 20 minutes from Kylesku, a picturesque village boasting the iconic Kylesku Bridge (now officially known by its original Gaelic name, Drochaid a’ Chaolais Chumhaing). Opened in 1982 by Queen Elizabeth II, this magnificent structure gracefully spans a dramatic sea loch with awe-inspiring views.  Fun fact for history buffs: the bridge replaced an unreliable ferry, so it's safe to say Her Majesty may have played a vital role in revolutionising travel in the area!

Foodie Delights and Local Crafts (Fuel Up and Find Treasures)

Feeling peckish after that scenic drive? No worries! Kylesku caters to rumbling tummies. The much loved "Surf n Turf" food truck on the north side of the bridge offers tasty treats (fresh lobster roll, anyone?), while The Kylesku Hotel is perfect for a relaxing sit-down meal.

Need a souvenir or a unique gift? The Old Ferry Craft Co-op Shop in Kylesku is a treasure trove of locally-made crafts, from beautiful knitwear to stunning pottery. Take a peek and find your own piece of the Highlands to take home!

Seal Spotting and Island Adventures (Hit the Water!)

Calling all nature enthusiasts, your aquatic adventure awaits! Kylesku Slipway is the launching point for Kylesku Boat Tours, offering incredible boat trips up Loch Glendhu and Glencoul, at the heart of the NW Highlands Geopark. Keep your eyes peeled – you might just spot some playful seals basking on the rocks!

Scourie - A Seaside Paradise (30 Minutes Further North)

Next stop, Scourie! This charming village boasts a beautiful beach and a sheltered harbour. For a lovely walk with views to die for head out to the headland for some refreshing sea air and breathtaking panoramas.

Feeling like an island escapade? The small hamlet of Tarbet, just north of Scourie, is your gateway to Handa Island, a haven for wildlife lovers. Managed by the RSPB, this island boasts a thriving puffin colony – birdwatching bliss! Don't forget to check the ferry timings beforehand to ensure you don't miss the boat (literally!).

Practicalities Covered (Food, Fuel, and a Hidden Gem!)

Scourie also boasts a handy petrol station, so you can refuel your car for further adventures. But wait, there's more!  On your way back south, keep an eye out for the Wailing Widow waterfall.
